DevOps Lead

At GS1, we are responsible for developing and implementing a universal, global system of standards for identifying objects, capturing data, and sharing information across the supply and demand chains.

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Lead with 7+ years of hands-on DevOps experience and strong leadership capability, with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure.
This role combines technical ownership, architectural decision-making, and team leadership, ensuring scalable, secure, and highly available cloud platforms while driving DevOps best practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. DevOps Strategy & Leadership

  • Own and drive the DevOps vision, roadmap, and standards across teams

  • Lead, mentor, and coach DevOps engineers; conduct technical reviews and performance guidance

  • Act as the primary DevOps escalation point for complex technical issues

2. Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure

  • Design and govern Azure cloud architecture with a focus on scalability, security, and cost optimization

  • Approve and review infrastructure designs and implementation approaches

  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies

3. CI/CD & Automation Excellence

  • Define and standardize CI/CD frameworks across products and teams

  • Oversee automation of build, test, and deployment pipelines

  • Continuously improve deployment speed, reliability, and rollback mechanisms

4. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Governance

  • Lead IaC adoption using Terraform, ARM, or Bicep

  • Enforce code quality, versioning, and reusability standards

  • Ensure consistent environments across Dev, QA, UAT, and Production

5. Monitoring, Reliability & Performance

  • Establish SRE-style practices: monitoring, alerting, SLAs, and incident response

  • Drive proactive performance optimization and capacity planning

  • Lead root cause analysis and post-incident reviews

6. Security & Compliance

  • Embed security-by-design in CI/CD and cloud architecture

  • Enforce Azure security best practices, identity management, and access control

  • Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards

7. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Engineering, QA, IT, and Product teams

  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

  • Promote DevOps culture and a continuous improvement mindset

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Azure certifications (DevOps Engineer Expert / Solutions Architect) strongly preferred

Required Experience & Skills

  • 7+ years in DevOps / Cloud Engineering roles

  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or lead role

  • Advanced experience with Azure (AKS, App Services, Functions, VMs, Azure DevOps)

  • Strong background in Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD tools

  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, Bash

  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence technical direction
